Chanel
Chanel Barnard from South Africa was brought to the OSSA pre-screening clinic at Port Shepstone Hospital in KwaZulu-Natal and received surgery during the Empangeni Mission in September 2006. Her family, from a mining town in Mpumalanga, was told that it would be at least two years before Chanel would be eligible to receive surgery, and that it would cost them R75000 – an enormous amount they could never have afforded. A Harley Davidson owners club, called Steel Wings, hosted a fund raiser for little Chanel and the proceeds were donated to getting her to Empangeni for her miraculous surgery.
