Volunteer
Operation Smile is entirely dependent on its volunteers – they are more than just volunteers, they are global ambassadors.
Every medical mission is comprised of a qualified team of physicians, nurses, dentists, speech therapists and other medical and non-medical professionals. They selflessly give their time, skill and compassion with the ever-present goal of helping every child with a correctable facial deformity.
The following medical specialties are applicable for international medical missions: Plastic Surgeon; Anesthetist; Pediatrician; Pediatric Intensivist; Biomedical Technician; Speech Pathologist; Child Life Specialist; Nurse (RN, BSN, MSN); Orthodontist; General Dentist.
Operation Smile South Africa also recruits non-medical volunteers for missions to fill the positions for student sponsors, electronic medical records, paper medical records, patient imaging and photography.
Volunteers are also crucial in assisting with office administration, fundraising and creating awareness.
Operation Smile South Africa has established chapters across the country where volunteers, supporters and everyone interested in making a contribution towards the organisation, get the opportunity to meet with each other and embark on different projects in support of Operation Smile.
